Composer Feature: Noam Faingold

It’s the first Friday of October! To start off the spooky season, we are featuring composer alum Noam Faingold!

Washington DC based composer Noam Faingold (b. 1984) is passionate about composing for and collaborating with traditional, multi-disciplinary, and cross-genre artists and projects.

His work has been praised as “…lyrical…”, “…exhilarating…”, and “…a tour-de-force of Jazz melded with Classical” by The New York Times, Anoushka Shankar for the BBC, Downbeat Magazine, and Gramophone.

He has been commissioned by notable ensembles/organizations such as Washington Musica Viva (as its current composer-residence), the Tulsa Signature Symphony and Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra.

As an orchestrator, his arrangements have been recorded by the likes of the London Symphony, Bartlesville Symphony, and baritone Lester Lynch.

In recent news, Noam was one of the composition faculty at the Hirshhorn Museum in DC (part of the Smithsonian) through the 21st Century Consort called “Mighty Young Composers,” DC’s version of the NY Phil’s “Very Young Composers” program. He also had his orchestra piece “Letters from a Second Home” performed by the Brazilian National Symphony.

New and upcoming works include: A large brass fanfare for Washington Conservatory’s 40th Anniversary gala, a piano trio for Washington Musica Viva commemorating artist Marilyn Banner’s 80th birthday, theme music for Fox Sports commentator RJ Young’s new high school football commentary show, and a new trio exploring the Argentine side of Noam’s family’s roots for the Zodiac Trio’s winter tour.

The last movement from Noam’s string quartet, “Where Our Voices Hide When We Must Speak,” performed by the Argus Quartet.
