Composer Feature: Emma Kent Wine
This week we are featuring Houston-based composer Emma Kent Wine!
A graduate of Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, Emma’s music “testifies to wonder, vitality, sagacity, and nostalgia through profound simplicity” (The Boston Musical Intelligencer). She has been commissioned by institutions all over the country, such as Ars Lyrica Houston, Clemson University, Rice University, and Juventas. Her most recent commission, “Windswept”, a piece for two violins and harpsichord, was premiered by Ars Lyrica Houston in January of this year. Take a listen to the recording using the link below!

“Windswept”, along with another piece, “I lose myself”, a piano quartet, were products of Emma’s summer 2024 artist retreat in Yorkshire, England! “Windswept” was inspired by a hike in Yorkshire Dales National Park and “I lose myself” was a personal introspection. “I lose myself” premiered in November of 2024 in Houston by Augusta Schubert, violin; Lauren Ross, viola; David Dietz, cello; and Tong Wang, piano.
