Juventas is seeking works related to immigrant stories

Deadline: February 17, 2026, 11:59 PM Eastern Time

Submission Fee: $15 per work

Juventas is seeking chamber works, for a program centered on immigrant stories. This theme may be interpreted in the broadest sense, including both contemporary narratives and ancestral journeys.

Submitted scores may utilize any combination of the following instruments: soprano voice, flute, clarinet, horn, 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass, percussion, piano.

Selected work(s) will be performed in Fall 2026 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with possible additional performances at other New England venues.

QUESTIONS:
Please email callforscores@juventasmusic.org with any questions, or to request a waiver if the $15 fee causes financial hardship.
If you wish to submit more than one piece, please fill out a complete application for each submission.

ELIGIBILITY:
We welcome music from any composer who identifies as emerging. Juventas is proud to present music by a diverse spectrum of voices and we encourage submissions from all nationalities, races, faiths and gender identities.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do you define “emerging composer.”

There are many paths in this art form, and we welcome submissions from any composer who identifies as emerging. If you are applying to calls for scores, you are likely emerging in some sense of the word. We do not have an age restriction on our stage.

Does my submission need to use the entire ensemble?

We welcome any subset of the instrumentation listed in this call. You may submit a piece for solo piano; clarinet-viola duet; string quartet, etc. The maximum instrumentation is soprano, flute, clarinet, horn, 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass, percussion and piano.

What if my piece includes an instrument not listed?

You are still welcome to submit it, especially it is just one additional instrument. However, we are less likely to program it.

If you would be willing to re-orchestrate your piece for our forces, please indicate this in the “additional comments” question.

Specific Instrument Questions

FLUTE

Our flautist can play piccolo, alto and bass flutes

CLARINET

Our clarinetist can play all the clarinets: Eb, bass, etc.

PERCUSSION

Our percussionist can do all standard percussion, and generally most anything. If it is something particularly esoteric , we might ask for your help sourcing it.

PIANO

Yes, we can do prepared piano

Can I submit a piece with electronics?

Yes.

Is there a maximum length my piece can be?

We welcome pieces of any length, but are most likely to program works 20 minutes or less.

May I submit more than one piece?

Absolutely. If you want to submit an additional work, please fill out a second application and pay a second application fee.

If you have requested a fee waiver, then we kindly request you choose your single best work.

How many works will you select?

We plan to select at least one piece, and up to four. We can’t always program all of our favorites, and sometimes we save pieces “in our back pocket” for future programming.

Juventas reserves the right not to choose no winner, however, in our 21-year history, we have never exercised this option.

When will you announce the results?

We expect to announce the results in May, or sooner. We typically receive several hundred submissions and take the time to give each work the attention it deserves.

Am I required to attend the performance(s) of my work?

No. However, if you are able to join us, we love connecting with composers in-person and will invite you to introduce your work from the stage.
