Composer Feature: Gwyneth Walker
Happy September! To kick off the first Friday of the month, we’re featuring renowned Composer Gwyneth Walker!
New England based composer Gwyneth Walker’s music is praised as full of energy, beauty, reverence, drama, and humor. She holds degrees from Brown University and the Hartt School of Music, and served on the faculty of Oberlin Conservatory before pursuing composition full time.
Walker has written over 400 commissioned pieces for orchestra, chamber ensemble, solo instrument, chorus, and solo voice. Her compositions often take inspiration from folk songs, American poetry, and her New England background.
Walker’s work has been recognized by a number of organizations. She is the recipient of Lifetime Achievement awards from the Vermont Arts Council and Choral Arts New England, in addition to a Hartt Alumni Award.
Juventas frequently programs Walker’s music, with 17 performances since 2021!
