Composer Feature: Miguel del Aguila
It’s the last Friday of August! To celebrate, we’re featuring GRAMMY-nominated composer Miguel del Aguila!
Miguel del Aguila is a force to be reckoned with in the contemporary classical music scene. His music has been praised as “brilliant and witty” by the New York Times, as well as “sonically dazzling” by the LA Times. His works draw from his South American and Hispanic heritage, are rhythmically driven, and blend tradition with modernity.
His works are frequently performed by prestigious ensembles worldwide, such as the BBC Symphony, Royal Concertgebouw, Chicago Symphony, and over 100 more around the world. In addition, Miguel has released over 60 CDs, which have resulted in three GRAMMY nominations. Thousands of soloists, ensembles and orchestras commissioned and performed his music worldwide. Besides three Grammy nominations, he received a Kennedy Center Friedheim Award, New Music USA’s Music Alive and Magnum Opus, Copland Foundation awards among many others.
We recently performed Miguel del Aguila’s “Tango Trio” at our 2025 Music in Bloom concert series, held at the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill. Additionally, we reprised the piece at our September Neighborhood Series at the Longfellow National Historic Site in Cambridge, MA.
