April 21, 2025
The solo piano performance features music inspired by the breathtaking national parks and wild areas across the country on May 17 & 18, 2025.
Boston | Join pianist Julia Scott Carey for Echoes of the Wild, a special solo piano performance of music inspired by the breathtaking landscapes of the country's national parks and wild spaces. It will be presented May 17 & 18 at 7pm at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill in Boylston, MA.
Set in the Garden’s iconic Limonaia conservatory at golden hour, this one-of-a-kind program will take you on a musical journey through the American wilderness – from the towering peaks of the Rocky Mountains to the tranquil seashores of Cape Cod. Featuring music by seven contemporary composers, each piece captures the unique spirit and beauty of nature’s diverse landscapes.
Mountain Toccata by Carson Cooman celebrates the Appalachian mountains and folk music; Daroo Lee’s Afterimage is inspired by the composer’s first impressions of the American West, as an immigrant to the U.S. from Korea; Aqueous Layers by Nathan Scalise explores the peaceful world below the surface of the ponds of Cape Cod; and in Kian Ravaei’s,Variations on This Land is Your Land, the composer takes a musical journey based on themes from Woody Gurthrie’s iconic tune, exploring what it means today. The program also contains pieces by Stacy Garrop, Gwyneth Walker, and Oliver Caplan, each inspired by stunning American landscapes such as Rocky Mountain National Park, Northern Vermont, Columbia River Gorge, Deschutes National Forest, and the Grand Canyon.
