Composer Feature: Benjamin Perry Wenzelberg

For this week's Composer Feature Friday, we are spotlighting composer, conductor, countertenor, and pianist Benjamin Perry Wenzelberg!

Benjamin Perry Wenzelberg is based between New York and Amsterdam, with degrees from the Dutch National Master in Orchestral Conducting and Harvard College. His compositions have been performed all over the world; in places such as Vienna, New York City, and Japan. In addition to being a successful composer, Benjamin has guest conducted prestigious ensembles including the Boston Pops, Dutch National Opera Academy, and the Noord Nederlands Orkest (NNO). Just this month, Benjamin guest conducted the NNO on a program which included his own orchestral work, "Heroic Dreamscape Fantasy".

In recent news, Benjamin's new holiday/wintertime cantata, "Any of Those Decembers", has been released as a studio recording on PARMA Records. Commissioned by Lyric Fest, the work is available for listening on Spotify. Congratulations!

Up next, Benjamin will serve as the assistant conductor for Poulenc's "Dialogues des carmélites" at Juilliard Opera and continuing as a Conductor Fellow with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester in Hamburg (working with chief conductor Alan Gilbert). In addition, he has been commissioned by the Dutch Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and is currently in the process of writing the piece! How exciting!
