Composer Feature: Jason Cain
Happy Friday! This week, we’re featuring a previous winner of Juventas’ Call for Scores: Jason Cain!
Jason Cain is a composer and tenor originally from New Hampshire. He now studies composition at the Hartt School in Hartford, Connecticut. His works have recently been performed by both on-campus and community ensembles such as the Hartt Chamber Choir, Hartt Clarinet Studio Ensemble, and CitySingers of Hartford, as well as the renowned chamber music groups loadbang, Haven Trio and Juventas New Music Ensemble.
Jason’s music draws from aspects of his eclectic background performing in opera, choir, salsa band, barbershop quartet, marching band, jazz band and musical theater. He attended Longy’s Divergent Studio in 2025 and is now working on projects for his final year at the Hartt School, including collaborations with friends and a major work for voices.
Cain’s piece Granite Peaks at Sunset, which won our Call for Scores and was performed on last season’s Sounds of New England Program. Performed by Ryan Shannon, violin; Matt Smith, cello; Celine Ferro, clarinet, and Julia Scott Carey, piano.
