Juventas Announces 2023-24 Mainstage Season

Visions of Green

August 8, 2023

Juventas New Music Ensemble announces its 2023-24 mainstage season Visions of Green: a series of five programs reflecting on how we engage with our planet from inspiration to conservation. This ambitious lineup is fueled by a diverse set of composers highlighting Juventas’s mission-driven focus on emerging voices. This season features the music of 36 living composers, of which 22 identify as female or gender-nonbinary and 14 as BIPOC composers.

The season begins on September 23 with Song in Flight, an homage to the wonders of avian life. It continues November 11 with Encore!, a program of nature-inspired audience favorites, part of the ensemble’s work to promote new music as repertoire. On January 27, Juventas features hornist Anne Howarth in a special solo concert, celebrating her five years with Juventas. March 23, The Age of the Rise highlights five composers' responses to climate change, with a collective call to action. Finally, on June 9 and 16, Juventas returns to New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill for a fourth consecutive year to present Music in Bloom, covering the 171-acre space with 5 simultaneous concerts, showcasing the music of 20 composers.

“We bring audiences music from living composers that respond to our time in a way that's meaningful and speaks to our humanity,” says Artistic Director Oliver Caplan. The season includes three world premiere commissions by composers Mari Kotskyy, Judith Shatin, and Kyle Rivera.

The season also includes music by Libby Meyer, Mari Kotskyy, Angus Davison, Joshua Shank, Beth Ratay, Christina Rusnak, Gwyneth Walker, Stacy Garrop, Bongani Ndodana-Breen, Nell Shaw Cohen, Eliza Brown, Catarina Domenici, Maru Montgomery Koppel, J.
